The oral surgery practice of Lytle, Tate and Stamper provides a variety of high-quality procedures, including wisdom teeth removal. Pasadena patients choose our surgeons or are referred by their dentists because of the experience and expertise we offer.

Typically with a wisdom teeth removal, Pasadena patients are age 17 and over and have reached an appropriate stage of development with their third molars. Without intervention, these wisdom teeth may create future oral health problems.

Why? As the wisdom teeth grow, they may bump up against existing teeth due to a lack of space along the jaw. Rather than emerging from the gums, the teeth can become impacted and grow at an incorrect angle. Patients who do not have wisdom teeth extracted may be affected by cavities, infections, and discomfort.

About the Process

Lytle, Tate and Stamper makes wisdom teeth removal easy for patients. We start by reviewing their existing teeth, jaw, and wisdom teeth to determine their stage of development, how many wisdom teeth the patient has, and what the best approach will be. If our surgeons determine that it’s time for wisdom teeth removal, they will conduct a physical exam to ensure that Pasadena patients are healthy enough to have the surgery.

On the day of a scheduled extraction, patients may have either a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed or a general anesthetic to help them sleep through the procedure. In either case, patients will be unaware of any pain throughout the surgery.

Before the wisdom tooth removal, patients will be advised about steps to take after the surgery. For example, those who received general anesthesia will be instructed to get a ride home and not to drive for 24 hours. They’ll also get guidance in the proper care and maintenance of sutures; what foods are appropriate to eat at what stage of healing; and how to manage any discomfort. Recovery usually lasts only a few days.
